Arts and Crafts

Let your inner artist soar!

We offer a variety of arts and crafts where you can create fun things for yourself or to sell at our annual Holiday Craft Sale!


Games

It’s all fun and games!

Our clients enjoy a variety of card games such as euchre, solo and cribbage. We also play various board games and physical games to keep you entertained and busy like:  bingo, table top shuffle board, crokinole, trivia, scrabble, skippbo, and many more!

Music and Dancing

Your toes will be tapping and your hands will be clapping!

Enjoy the beauty of music with a fun sing a long with our talented volunteers and staff who share their musical talents!


Daily Meals

Delicious and Nutritious!

Enjoy a hot lunch with friends! Choices range from soup and sandwich to a full course meal. We can accommodate many special dietary needs including diabetic friendly, gluten free, vegetarian, or ground/pureed. 


Special Events and Parties

We love a good party!

In addition to holiday parties, we offer themed days (such as animal day) and birthday celebrations!


Special Services

We take care of you!

Visiting Foot Care Nurse: We have a visiting Foot Care Nurse who comes to our program to run a nursing nail care clinic for our clients who wish to have their toenails and fingernails trimmed. Our staff will help to coordinate the appointment with the nurse which can be arranged on your program attendance day for your convenience! There is an extra cost for this service paid directly to the foot care nurse.

Mobility Aid Clinic: We are happy to have a partnership with Kitchener Silver Cross who offer a mobility aid clinic, on-site, for our clients to ensure that their walkers and wheelchairs are operating safely! A service check, free of charge, will be done on equipment while at program to be sure that brakes and working properly and all screws and parts are secure and in good working order.


 

Meet Our Team

K-W Seniors Day Program is an independently operated program with a volunteer board of directors that has been providing supports and services to older adults in the community and their families since 1974.

Our program staff are all certified Personal Support Workers who are able to assist clients with all of their personal needs. They are trained and dedicated to providing a cheerful, accessible, and friendly environment to promote independence and self-esteem for our clients.


Deanne

Deanne Gilles

Executive Director

Deanne has been the Executive Director of our program since 2007. She began her career with us as the Program Coordinator in 1991, but prior to this, she volunteered many years helping with the activities and programs. Her passion as always been to work with older adults and their families to support them in living at home for as long as possible. She believes the positive social interactions and meaningful activities are integral to quality of life, which is what the K-W Seniors Day Program supports!


Paula

Paula Ploj

Program Coordinator

Paula joined our program in 2007 as the Program Coordinator. She is the first point of contact for new clients and care partners joining our program. Paula manages the program waitlist, assesses and coordinates services for our clients, provides support to families and care partners, and offers supervisory support to our volunteers and students. Paula brings a “down-to-earth” attitude that our clients, staff and volunteers love!


 
 
 
 

The Board of Directors

 

Matthew Raines

Board Chair

Matthew joined the Board in 2017 and was later elected to Board Chair in November 2022. As Board chair, he oversees monthly board meetings and works closely with the members of the Board and the Program Director to set and maintain the strategic direction of the program.

Matthew is an Associate at Goldman Sachs and enjoys giving back to the K-W community in his spare time


Danielle Thibaudeau

Secretary

Danielle Thibaudeau joined the Board in 2014 as Secretary. As a Policy Advisor in Social Services, she is committed to supporting vulnerable populations, including older adults. She is passionate about addressing root causes of social challenges and building resilient, connected communities where everyone can thrive.


Kritika Vaid

Treasurer

Kritika joined our board in June 2024 and as our Treasurer brings her financial expertise to the board. She works closely with our bookkeeper to ensure the financial health of our program. Outside of her volunteer role, Kritika is a Financial Operations Specialist at Benevity.


Jessica Spataro

Member

Jessica is a corporate lawyer practicing in the community at a local law firm. She loves to travel and volunteer in the K-W community. Jessica joined our board in 2014 and served as our Board Chair for 2 terms. She continues to support our program and offers valuable guidance on policies and procedures related to the not-for-profit sector.

Devin Fiegehen

Devin joined our Board of Directors in December 2024 and brings valuable experience as a Communications Supervisor with the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Devin is dedicated to fostering positive change that enhances the welfare of our community. Her concentration is on the advancement of the Program’s strategic plan and initiatives.


Corey Neumeister

Member

Corey is a long standing member of our Board of Directors. He has held various positions on our board for over 15 years. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience working in the healthcare sector as an Geriatric Emergency nurse with specialized training and experience in cardiology.
